Alone on Christmas
This year, Christmas Day
is a mishmash of whatever
I personally want it to be.
No desire, nor expectation
to spend the day with another
as I am whole within myself.
The past few years have
been spent becoming a true
master of my aloneness.
I used to crave the attention
of other people, but now all
I need is a curiosity of self.
Now I sit with the reflection
of self and raise my glass to
the achievements of 2022.
This year I prepped for 2023.
Mirror is clean, reflection anew.
Worthy, loved and enough.
An outsider might shine a light
on my aloneness, yet I sit with
the gift of my present presence.
I am not alone, so long as I have me.
But first I had to really know me,
for without the knowing that
I am not alone; I was still alone.

Just because we are surrounded by people does not mean we don't feel alone.
Some of us kind of end up feeling like Christmas is just another day in the scheme of things. I have always enjoyed some peace and quiet on Christmas Day, though I always pushed for a certain amount of attention. But this year I have ended up leaning into my own presence and really appreciating my own little world in this moment.
Some might claim that this makes me alone, yet I don't feel alone at all.
