I Am Present

Both the sun and the wind reach for my bones. I am here, no way to pretend I am not. There is no denial I exist in this body; an ice bucket is not necessary.

A few brave souls remain absorbing the two extremes.

I could avoid it and so could they.

I shift to the grass so I can soak in some of the sun rays, my skirt does not what it should. The busyness and the chill of the wind explicitly lets me know I am here.

In these moments I am present, so I appreciate the little things.

A child in a t-shirt and shorts scoots by chattering to her mother, smiling. She doesn’t flinch, despite my goosebumps. Her love of the moment takes over, as is often typical for a child.

The toilet door knocks, as it opens and shuts. The crows swoop in to clean up, preparing the abandoned picnic table for the next group. Then there are the teen girls living and loving life; in their element, despite the crazy weather.

The wind does not allow me to pretend it is still; but I feel the stillness, even as the wind takes over.
